This blog post is part of a series highlighting Key Management Group team members.

Melissa Johnson combines a background in education with a passion for building people as Team Leader of our Financial Planning team. She began her career working part-time in a bank while pursuing her a degree as an elementary school teacher. She found she really enjoyed helping people at the bank and decided instead to pursue a career in the financial field. That lead her to Key Management Group. She joined us 8 years ago and began in our case prep department. Always keen to learn more, Melissa pursued and received her Series 7, Series 66, Life and Health, and CRPC designations. In August of 2021 she was named Team Leader of our Financial Planning team and has done tremendous work helping our firm continue to enhance our offerings while transitioning clients to the eMeeting platform.

Melissa says that one of the primary goals of the Financial Planning team is to help the advisor’s clients feel comfortable with their finances. The other primary goal is to strengthen our relationships with our advisors while expanding to help even more practices deliver quality financial plans. This includes helping advisors meet home office requirements and to maximize their use of the eMeetings platform, while ensuring our team really personalizes our approach to meet the needs and personality of each individual advisor. She said its important that our advisors know and feel like they are receiving a truly customized experience and not some cookie cutter product.

As a mom with two young children under the age of five, her time outside of work is largely committed to her family. As she puts it, these days she spends much of her free time playing dinosaurs and keeping her two young boys busy. Like many of our team members, Melissa enjoys the outdoors which includes going with her husband and kids fishing on the lake and for walks in local parks. When the weather is good, they enjoy visiting the many lakes of Michigan as well as swimming in their pool at home. Summers are most often spent on the beaches of Traverse City and exploring other parts of Michigan – pretty much any family-friendly destination they can visit in a weekend.

If you haven’t connected with Melissa yet, reach out to her on Linkedin or you can email her directly at mjohnson@keymanagementgrp.com.
